Anthony Davis scheduled to undergo MRI for an injured foot
Anthony Davis is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his injured foot, according to ESPN. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but the All-Star forward is expected to miss some time.
Anthony Davis is expected to have an MRI on his injured foot today. The results of the MRI will help determine the extent of the injury and whether or not Davis will need to miss any time.
Anthony Davis, the Lakers’ big man, is likely to have an MRI after he was injured during Friday’s win against the Denver Nuggets.
As Dave McMenamin writes, the injury appears to have occurred when Davis went up for a layup against Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and his lower leg collided with Jokic’s leg in midair. A source told ESPN on Friday night that Davis was experiencing discomfort in his foot, but the team is hoping the injury isn’t severe. Head coach Darvin Ham said that Davis had X-rays performed on the foot before leaving the arena.
“I don’t want to speak on it until I know exactly what’s going on,” Ham said after the game. “I’ll know more (Saturday).”
If Davis has to miss any time, it would be an unfortunate turn of events, not just for the Lakers, but also for the 29-year-old himself, who has been playing some of the best basketball of his career in recent weeks. In his last 12 full games, he has averaged an incredible 35.0 points, 14.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals on a scintillating 64.1% shooting from the field.
Lakers center Thomas Bryant would be in line for a larger role if Davis is forced to the sidelines. Bryant started the third quarter in Davis’ place on Friday night and finished the game with a season-high 21 points on an efficient 9-of-11 shooting from the field.
Lakers forward Anthony Davis missed the second half of Friday night’s game against the Houston Rockets due to a foot injury. Davis underwent an MRI on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury.
While the Lakers played one of their best games of the season against Denver, all eyes are on Anthony Davis after he sat out the second half with a foot injury.
There are few details available at this time, but the X-rays came back clean. Davis will have an MRI tomorrow to get a better idea of the extent of the injury.
There is a chance that this is just “discomfort” and not something more severe, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN. However, Davis has missed more than half the Lakers’ games in the past two seasons due to an assortment of injuries, so any time he comes up hobbling, it’s a cause for concern.
The injury occurred in the first quarter. Davis was bothered by it but stayed on the court for a while. He came back in the second quarter but was not the same player, going 0-of-1 shooting and looking slowed.
Even with Davis’ injury, the Lakers managed to pull out an impressive win. LeBron was a big reason for that, hitting tough shots and playing some center in the second half. He did a great job guarding Nikola Jokic, who still managed to get 25 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. LeBron refused to let the Lakers give up their lead and he just keeps making plays. It’s amazing what he can do at 37 years old.
The 12-16 Lakers definitely needed this win to build some momentum (they’re hosting their old friend Kyle Kuzma and the struggling Wizards on Sunday). However, the Lakers will need their best player this season – Davis, averaging 27.4 points a game on 59.3% shooting, plus 12.1 rebounds a night – to use this game as a springboard and propel them forward.
